Welcome to a new school year. As kids are coming back into our lives, we welcome this new journey. Every day we have the opportunity to positively impact students and their learning. Are you taking advantage of that incredible privilege? How are you supporting the learning of all students in your classroom while being equitable? What strategies do you use to interact with kids and help them interact with each other? Please contact me if there is any way I can support you. The last page of the site as well as http://teacher-playground.zeef.com/renae.iversen are places to start looking for resources. Good luck out there! ~Renae
I can't believe the time if flying by so quickly. Here we are already 4 weeks into our '14-'15 adventure. What awesome things have you been doing to boost student achievement. In my new role as a beginning teacher mentor this year, my impact isn't directly on student achievement but rather on teacher achievement which will then, hopefully, impact students. It has been such a joy to go into classrooms and both see/talk to students and work with teachers. This role is allowing me to see kids across the whole development spectrum and I've learned quickly that, no matter their size, students want to learn. Some certainly don't show it but they do want to learn. Some of the questions I've been getting have centered around classroom management and student engagement. What are some tips and tricks you can share with new teachers about how to keep kids actively engaged in the lesson? Have a great week and keep up the good work out there! Here's a little video inspiration from Soul Pancake.
I hope you all have had a great first week and now first full week of school. The beginning of the year is always an exciting time for everyone and now students and teachers are settling into a daily routine. I've had the pleasure to visit many schools in our district and see/talk to students from tiny to young adult. So fun to see them all learning and working. Please don't hesitate to contact me or one of the other mentors if you would like support with lesson planning, classroom management, co-teaching a lesson, or any thing else you can think of. Good luck out there! I found the lyrics to this song by Shakira to be very appropriate to us and the students we serve:
The pressure's on you feel it, but you got it all believe it...Your time to shine, don't wait in line y vamos por todo (go for it all)...People are raising their expectations, go on and feed them. This is your moment. No hesitation. Today's your day, I feel it You paved the way believe it. If you get down get up, when you get down get up. (and I'm changing the lyrics here a bit...) 'Cause this is HSD! ~Waka Waka by Shakira It has been fun getting out to schools and meeting with everyone. I know you are all excited and nervous and all the emotions that come with the first day. One thing I've noticed is that experienced teachers in every building have been very willing to help so use them. If you're not sure about something and can't get in touch with one of us right away, talk to your building colleagues. Chances are they will probably have an answer for you.
Today is another big day of getting out to schools so I better get after it! Rest up this weekend and know that next week is going to be great. Proud to be HSD! |
