I can't believe the time if flying by so quickly. Here we are already 4 weeks into our '14-'15 adventure. What awesome things have you been doing to boost student achievement. In my new role as a beginning teacher mentor this year, my impact isn't directly on student achievement but rather on teacher achievement which will then, hopefully, impact students. It has been such a joy to go into classrooms and both see/talk to students and work with teachers. This role is allowing me to see kids across the whole development spectrum and I've learned quickly that, no matter their size, students want to learn. Some certainly don't show it but they do want to learn. Some of the questions I've been getting have centered around classroom management and student engagement. What are some tips and tricks you can share with new teachers about how to keep kids actively engaged in the lesson? Have a great week and keep up the good work out there! Here's a little video inspiration from Soul Pancake.
I hope you all have had a great first week and now first full week of school. The beginning of the year is always an exciting time for everyone and now students and teachers are settling into a daily routine. I've had the pleasure to visit many schools in our district and see/talk to students from tiny to young adult. So fun to see them all learning and working. Please don't hesitate to contact me or one of the other mentors if you would like support with lesson planning, classroom management, co-teaching a lesson, or any thing else you can think of. Good luck out there! I found the lyrics to this song by Shakira to be very appropriate to us and the students we serve:
The pressure's on you feel it, but you got it all believe it...Your time to shine, don't wait in line y vamos por todo (go for it all)...People are raising their expectations, go on and feed them. This is your moment. No hesitation. Today's your day, I feel it You paved the way believe it. If you get down get up, when you get down get up. (and I'm changing the lyrics here a bit...) 'Cause this is HSD! ~Waka Waka by Shakira |
